Zelda Symphony tickets London Hammersmith Apollo now on sale

That’s right, Geeks get sophisticated with an orchestra of video game tunes from the long running series The Legend of Zelda, visiting London on the 25th October 2011. The tickets went on sale at 10:00 GMT and many were snapped up on ticket master, i didn’t even see the cheaper ones, just the *Gulp £62 ones, which i had 2 in row F of the balcony area, which is dissapointing as later ticket master were showing tickets in the cetre of the stalls, so my advice to you if you still have time and have the money for the mid priced tickets, the very front will cost you around £110, go to http://www.hmvtickets.com/events/4090?REFID=MAMA_APOLLOinstead, is has a much better selection, and are very slightly cheaper, but not by much, 2 mid tickets would be £125 instead of the £128 i paid, eeek. Thats the price for sophistication folks. It aslo mean there’s bound to be 3DS’s abound for some street pass action, make sure you charge her up before you go. Good times to be had by all.

Ps. i haven’t had an email or couldn’t find anywhere on club nintendo about a promo code, though allegedly there is one as ticketmaster had the option for it. Let us know if you did.
***update****
Alex posted very kindly in the comments to use “ocarina” for the 15% off. Yes i’m somewhat embaresed that i didn’t look up the promo code for the US tickets which was zelda. thanks Alex ^_^

Bethesda’s lawyers go outters on @notch mojang

What! we hear you cry, this can’t be, we love notch, why would they do such a thing, apparently the name “scrolls” which is Mojangs other game in development, is infringing trademark on The Elder Scrolls Skyrim name, they’re worried people will confuse them :-/, i mean what people? and what difference does it make, its one word, its not like its sonic, and people might accidently buy a game thats better than the official sonics that come out anyway, geeez!. @notch has tweet picted an image of the document http://twitpic.com/61cckm. The document has been encrypted in a 256 bit aes algorithm, either that or it’s written in sweedish, hard to say, apparently it’s 15 pages long though. @notch will do a blog post later to comment on the situation.

It wasn’t long ago that notch (creator of minecraft) and Todd Howard (Bethesda’s game director) did an interview together after E3 http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/06/14/notch-and-todd-howard-the-one-on-one-interview.aspx

Well i was considering buying Skyrim Elder Scrolls, it does look good, but not now, Bathesda are sucky. Though @notch tweeted he still <3 them, and hopes it just lawyers being lawyers. I say 😛 to you Bathesda 😛 or somethings else thats mean. lol

Sega Rally/slow news day abound!

Woo! What a hype Evo, huh?! Yeah, I was asleep for the final here in stupid England… but at least Kayo Police was looking good cosplaying as Viper, huh?! What do you mean she’ll probably main Poison in SFxTekken? I don’t follow. Oh well, explain it to me later.

Anyhoo, late to the party talking about Evo we may be, but you can never be too late when once again, we are talking completely off the subject! For indeed, we here at Grig have been experiencing a life altering revolution, getting back in touch with nature! Yes that’s right, we have defied the very foundations that our gaming morals are built upon and have… gulp… ventured into the great wide yonder where the ‘normals’ reside a.k.a outside. But before you demand we hand our Game reward cards in at the door on our way out – the points on which long since forgotten anyway if there are any at all – just hold your horses my Grigs! There is method behind the madness as you will see below! For on our excellent adventure, what may we chance upon?

Sega Rally arcade machine 1
What we have here is a genuine original Sega Rally twin-seater arcade machine photographed in the wild, or more specifically, Hailsham Lagoon leisure centre. What a sight for sore eyes this living legend was as it stood there proudly still running it’s demo over and over as if it was still at the peak of it’s cutting edge 1995 model 2 powers, ignoring the scorn of the days current youth who were passing it by with confused looks on their faces as to what this contraption was.
Sega Rally arcade machine 2
Oh the things it must have seen! Although saying that, it doesn’t even have any trademark fag burns on it, let alone reek of the cigarette smoke of a battalion of ‘cool’ 15 year olds. Where the grig has this thing been?

I expect these days it would be grateful for as much of a Slush Puppy spillage on it’s seats. If they even make those any more. At least that type of abuse would be better than the odd 4 year old who occasionally sat down at it rocking from side to side on the wheel before losing interest. Scum. Subhuman scum.
Sega Rally arcade machine 3
In other arcade news, we also chanced upon a Daytona USA 2 coin-op outside the cafe in Hamden Park! We again ventured into the abyss where the wild things are to encounter this maestro of model 3 majesty but had to retreat when we found it crawling with the holidaying hoodlums from the local primary school who were looking particularly rowdy and menacing. Hoping to avoid any conflict, we thought it best not to disturb their activities which primarily appeared to involve traversing the coin op like it was some kind of derelict climbing frame and disrespecting it by smearing their ice cream emblazoned mits all over it’s once luxurious arcade upholstery. Again, scum. But we’ll be back! Might just have to wait for all the thugs to go back to school first.

Playstation vita Japan only this year 2011

The news is spreading all around the intermawebs that the Sony Playstation Vita will not see a release in North America or Europe this holliday, so the earlier rumour of october was waaaaaay off. It seems that Japan should be seeing a release 2011, but the rest of us will have to wait until early 2012. They have also stated that the price will not drop just because the competition have announced a drop in price.

There’s a snake in ma boot: The lazy Grigs roundup news 30-07-11

I know its a pretty lame segway/title, anyhoo there’s been a fair few interesting game tech news in the feeds i follow lately, and none of them really fleshed out a post so i’ going to do a quick fire snapshot of a few things this week. Its a little late due to losing the draft grrr.

So even quicker than before, gears of war board game? yeah its for reals, at least state side according to amazon.com. its a multiplayer cooperative board game, that doesn’t sound like fun really, don’t you think?

Driver san fransisco has A) been put back to the 6th september in the states, but we get it on the 2nd according to Amazon.co.uk. However they are pushing their DRM with this, this means you must be online to play it. If you lose connection it will wait for you to reconnect before continuing, thats nice, ubisoft, you could of been cool, but instead you are being gay. You’ll be as bas as EA next. Yeah we think they suck too.

Minecraft has a new mob in the works, titled Enderman, skinny creepy thing that you should not look directly at, from all the things notch has been saying this little fella sounds very interesting in what it does.

Playstation vita has 10X more ram than the psp, it may be released as early as the end of october according to one source that could very well be fake so don’t hold your breath just yet.

The 3ds is about to get a price drop, and so to not upset early adopters, they get 10 free nes games and 10 free gameboy games down-loadable from the eshop when they are released, all they have to do is log into the eshop from their 3ds before the 12th August, this will entitle them to be an ambassador and to receive these games earlier than regular folk and for nothing, the line up include Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™ on the NES, and the Gameboy is expecting Yoshi’s Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™. Some of these games will eventually be updated to play online too.

Dan is no longer in the final line up for sf x tekken. shame

in tech news there’s also a possibility that Europe will get a windows phone 7 phone with a lide out qwerty, just what i’ve been waiting for, there’s still some mystery surrounding this, but the rumour mill is turning.

There was more but i’ve lost my notes due to windows not sleeping and running out of power 🙁

Money money money, must be funny

And how are our favourite corporate tech giants and entertainment companies doing, i’m talking Nintendo, Microsoft and Apple hear. On the BBC news technology website there was this little article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14340470 which basically is saying that apple has access to spendable cash either by way of money in the banks or assets that are easily accessible, according to some financial results apple ahas $76.4bn whereas the US Treasury has only $73.7bn. Yeah, that sounds a little ridiculous to us too.

That said, what would you spend it on, apparently apple and Microsoft teamed up to buy a few thousand patents from Nortal, these are the kind of things that either stop a product from happeneing because somebody owns the rights to how it works, or something has already been manufactured and the software does something that has already been patented, like the dispute between apple and HTC with some of the more recent smartphone technology.

Microsoft has also seen some good financial figures in it’s report, apparently its hit record high income of $69.96bn, that’s £43.4bn to us Brits, according to the BBC article i took that from, thanks beeb ^_^ hehe

Not all is good though, both Nintendo and Sony aren’t feeling too well, Sony make a loss after the quake and tsunami that hit japan earlier this year, read more at the BBC here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14321660. In Nintendo news Iwata is looking to receive a pay cut, as are some of the senior managing directors, including Shigeru Miyamoto who is a legend and responsible for many mario and zelda title to name but a few. These cuts are a reaction to weak sales, in particularly the gimicky 3ds. Although zelda looks amazing on it, there still hasn’t been a huge uptake in the device, though that is also about ready for a price cut, so keep your eye’s peeled. Also early adopters are getting some NES games for it, for free, and eventually they will have online multilayer support woo hoo.

Google plus slaps ipod touch in the face with a wet kipper

google plus app logo and requirements
****update****
Nevermind the rest below, the google+ app is now compatible with the ipod touch and the ipad. 🙂

Ok it was late, like 2:30 in the morning and the google+ app i downloaded through itunes (pc) just wouldnt install on my ipod touch. So i’m like ok, maybe hte touch needs an update, it does, but doesn’t make a difference, after actually looking at the apps page in itunes, which lets face it, is always the last resort, there it is, Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.

OK, thats a bit descimative don’t you thnk google, what?, is my geo location that important to ya, IS IT. Apparently yes, mobile google plus acceptance screen so thats it, no native app for ipod touch. At least not yet, i know i’m bad mouthing it but it could just be that its coming at a later date, logic says otherwise as surely extra functionality an iphone has over a touch could just be turned off in the build? eh?

Tell us what you reckon, clearly the mighty goog are after more power, and ordinarily i like google, hate android with a passion, though thats part my slow phone and part the insane permissions its apps want, leave my phone book alone and stop wanting to use the internet, you’re a frickin’ egg timer, ARGGGHHHH

Is It Safe To Be A Geek Anymore?

Everything’s changed for the nerd. Where once the humble superfan could happily spend a life ensconced in their own bubble, with nothing but their addiction and a tightly chosen cabal of likeminded freaks for company, nowadays geekiness is an entirely public affair. T-shirts. Simon Pegg. Blogs. We’ve leaked into view.

And now here’s crooning songstress Lana Del Rey hoiking a song with a video games hook. Admittedly the reference has got little to do with her own love of Xbox – despite the title, it’s hard to imagine Del Rey tootling her sadcore mush in a Minecraft super-server – but the reference got me thinking. A decade ago you wouldn’t have caught any serious artist daubing themselves in geeky colours. Nowadays it’s a countercultural badge of honour. Maybe it’s a phase, as a run of nerdier types reach maturity and foist their pent up energies on the world. Maybe it’s not as big as it feels – the internet’s given voice to pretty much everything, and maybe we’re just hearing what we wanna hear. Or maybe there’s a generational turnover happening.

This is a digital age, and digital people are in demand.

But I don’t think it’s so much the geeks who have led the mainstreaming revolution, but their tech. As their quality has caught up with demand, gadgets, games and graphics have all carved out their place in our lives. From the iPhone to the ubiquity of CGI, we now exist in the world geeks have theoretically always dreamed of – where tech is everywhere. And what’s more, all those analogue status symbols – the clothes, the roots, the motorcycle – have become a little passé in the face of iPads, twitter followers, and clock speed. They’re not irrelevant. They’re just too slow at updating to soak up all the attention. And as the hardware becomes mainstream, there’s a cachet in having been there from the start. And those with talent to add to their history have begun to leverage their position into status, and their status into power.

And everyone loves a bit of that.

So, basically, namedropping a sci-fi flick or admitting you owned a Game Boy is no longer countercultural people. It’s an admission. An admission that as power is handed out in the new world order, you want a piece of it. And that’s the most mainstream thing there ever was.

(Hah! PS, unless you write a crappy blog that no one reads. That’s basically as cool as you can freakin get!)
