Minecraft, MINDBLOWN, Middle Earth re created, AMAZING

This is incredible, i kid you not, a community over at http://www.minecraftmiddleearth.com has pushed minecraft to its limits with a recreated world mapping out Middle Earth, below is a video done by OMFGcata over on youtube as part of his Outside the Blocks episodes, guided by gandalf and dexter who gave a tour of the shire, bree, rivendale, moria, kings way, kings court, chamber of light etc. It looks fantastic, the caverns are so huge that it was struggling to render, and in parts the night sky was rendered instead. Some of the recreations are 1:1 but others are more like 1:4, even so it apparently would take like 12 hours to walk across the map. What this community have done since October and are continueing to do is darn right breath taking. For those who want the shortest route to awe, go from about 27:00 mimnutes where rivendale was done by hand before plugins made things a little more easier.

I got the Poison

Good day my fellow Griggers and welcome to the next few globules of Capcom news spillage fresh from Comic Con! Following on from yesterday’s events, fighting fans are at fever pitch after Capcom accidentally dropped their entire deck of cards in front of the watching world just as they were about to play their Ultimate MvC3 hand! Oof! Heads are gonna roll at Capcom towers methinks, as they’ve just saved themselves four months worth of trolling (ha ha!)! But now my Grigs, it’s time to see if Ono and co can do any better!

As promised, Ono has hit us up with some fresh new Street Fighter x Tekken character reveals, along with a release date for SF3: Third Strike Online! Happy Street Fighting days ahoy!

So lets get into the new characters. As mentioned here on Grig recently, we were getting the distinct impression that something of a Poison-like variety was in the offing for SFxTekken from Ono’s continuous retweeting about her (or him. Fight that one out between yourselves!), and by jove, it seems we were right (for once)! Fresh from the seedy streets of Metro City, Poison looks to have given Hugo the managerial boot and is now putting on her brawling mittens again to show those Tekken punks how they did things in the old school!

sfxtekken poison

Poison’s a dude? Next you’ll be telling me Lady Gaga’s a woman.

Stepping into the arena alongside her is Tekkens Yoshimitsu in the guise of his Tekken 3 self, as I understand it. He was always one of the more intersting Tekkenites from an aesthetic perspective – plus, i actually know who he is – so its good to see him getting the superior Capcom treatment!

sfxt Yoshimitsu

Of course, we cant overlook the other fellas who we have known to have been winging their merry way to SFxTekken-land, and who have at last been officially unveiled – the classic Dhalsim and, er… Steve. Y’know, the boxer dude from the Namco series? No, me neither. But I’m sure he’s a top fellow (and good cannon fodder for one of the Capcom boxers)! Not bad going!

sfxt Dhalsim

sfxt Steve

So, there you have it. The roster looks to be building nicely, but of course, the character who is stealing the headlines is the pink-haired Final Fight veteran who’s inclusion, although rather odd having never actually been playable in SF, is a first look at a Capcom character not recycled straight out of SF4! Clearly having found the key to the Capcom torture chamber that was lost after the completion of SSFIV and finally releasing the developers locked within, we can now look forward to seeing who else they have up their sleeve – just as soon as they lock those E-grade work experience students who were behind AE in there in their place! With people calling out for characters yet to see the 3D polygonal brush from Third Strike, Alpha, and SF1, Capcom have taken a respectable step in showing good faith having listened to fans, and now we cam finally peg a bit of hope on getting to see Rolento, Karin and Elena on the 3D planes of 2011! And then shoe horn them into an AE upgrade. That’s what I’m really after. Anyway…

In other Street Fighter news, Third Strike Online has been confirmed for an August 23rd release on PSN and a day later for XBLA (fanboys ready – FIGHT!), so we finally get to see how good these upgraded graphics and GGPO net code really are. Oh things are looking bright on the Street Fightin’ horizon – happy times!

And just before we go, as an added news bonus, those of you who have picked up Street Fighter IV Volt will be glad to hear that Capcom are bringing the likes of Sakura and the boyish-looking Makoto to our fruit-themed devices at an as yet unknown date. The price, I hear you cry? Why the healthy sum of not a penny dear sir! Well that’s just the kind of asking price that Grig likes to hear! Yes that’s right, picking up where the original iPhone/Pod SFIV left off, it seems Capcom are going to continue their free character upgrading tomgriggery for the foreseeable future! Woo!

At this rate, we might have to start being nicer about Capcom!

Nah.

Breaking news!

Just as Grig was whacking this face full of Grig up on… er, Grig (too much?), what news of epic proportions doth land in our possession but three items of news-nuggetry the like of which we were not expecting!

First up is the rather spiffing news that rounding out the Final Fight showing in SFxTekken, it looks like Hugo, Cody, Guy and Haggar will be joining the cast if a CGI trailer is to be believed! Although no in game footage has been seen yet, we’re pretty much assuming this lot are confirmed.

Next is the rather strange revelation that the final MK9 DLC character is none other than claw wielding mentalist Freddy Krueger! What the Grig?! But if that wasn’t cool enough…

Darkstalkers are not dead! What Ono and co haven’t been working on in AE, they have been working on in a new Darkstalkers game… hopefully! Knocking us for six comes this news like a bolt out of the blue forcing us to consider taking back all our slandering! Except so far all we’ve got to show for it is this one lousy promo image. Screw you Ca… ah, we can’t even joke about it! Darkstalkers returns my Grigs! Woo! Hype ahoy! Although Capcom have just said that this isn’t a definite confirmation of anything…

They’re going to shoot us down aren’t they?

Raaaawww goes the Lion, more of a Meow if you ask me

OSX Lion bannerHere it is folks, release day, well it was 20 minuts before i started writing this post, the new Lion operating system for Apple Macs is out for download on the app store, and to be honest, i’m not impressed. I mean yeah safari is apparently sandboxed now to help prevent nasties sneaking into the OS, and you can encrypt the entire disc with the new Vault feature, but the new gesture additions have overwitten the old, and that’s just peeved me off. 4 finger swipe up should show the desktop, but instead now its a thumb and three finger expand, thats just pants, it doesnt work 2/3 goes for me. Plus i liked it the old way and it won’t let me configure it that way. Apox on you Apple. Also pixelmator has just updated and no longer works, used time machine to get an older version and it only part works, the selection box was completely no where near the cursor.

Macbook Air 2011
In other news, the brand spanking new MacBook Air is out too, 1.6Ghz i5 for the 11 inch book with 64GB or 128GB ssd, or the 13 inch has either 1.7 i5, or a 1.8 i7 all dual core. a choice of 128GB or 256GB ssd. All bu the 64GB ssd drive version has 4GB ram, the 64GB ssd verison only has 2. All have the intel HD3000 graphics that are part of the sandy bridge architecture.

A Marvellous Upgrade Cometh?

Marvel vs Capcom 3 was a bit like Pippa Middleton’s posterior; it’s not that good, but people don’t half go on about it. But now, a full 6 months after Capcom released said title, they feel they’ve waited plenty long enough before announcing a new version of the game. Thus, taking their cue from WWF legend/lunatic James Hellwig originally known as plain old Warrior, ol’ Cappers have acknowledged that sticking the world ‘Ultimate’ at the beginning of a title makes things twice… nay, thrice as cool! Ladies and gentlegrigs, I give you Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3! Sigh…

Umvc3 logo

Stealing Capcoms thunder ahead of their Comic Con announcement, Amazon today broke the games cover with a listing stating that the title will feature 12 new characters and release on 15th November. Of the 12 newbies, only four are currently known – Hawkeye, Ghost Rider, Firebrand, and Strider Hiryu, and by known, we are talking about in name coz personally I don’t know who the grig any of that lot are except for Strider, but ho hum! Where’s freakin’ Superman?! What do you mean that’s the wrong company? Darn.

Umvc3 newbies

Anyhoo, other than new characters, a raft of improvements are expected with the game, although we tread cautiously my Grigs. This is Capcom after all. But from whats already known so far, it looks like ‘Timate should at least go some way in glossing over the lazy and monumentally lacking features of Capcom stablemate SSFIV Arcade Edition with some legitimate and worthy upgrade efforts! These include updated life bars, huge re-balance changes, additional modes and X-Factor nerfage of the highest order! Oh, and new paid-for costumes. Tssk. Still, apart from that last one, it all looks good to us, and having invested close to one entire hour play time in MvC3, the good-ship-Grig doth conclude that they are addressing all the right areas! Probably.

Ultimate mvc3 Strider Super

One particular avenue in which a miracle would seemingly have occurred is the heavily-fan-requested inclusion of a spectator mode – something that Capcom previously alleged was not feasible over the net with MvC. Yet incredibly, here it is in the update. Why it’s almost as if Capcom were talking out their ayne, forsaking what people wanted on account of avoiding putting effort into development! But let us let bygones be bygones, and for now, through gritted teeth we say ‘Ta very much!’ to the big C!

What is still unclear at this time is whether or not there will be a DLC option for owners of the original disc version. From the upgrades mentioned, it is looking like the only way to Ultimate land will be through a shiny new disc-shaped door. But we merely speculate and I’m sure there will be more info from Comic Con in the coming days! Stay tuned!

Breaking News Ahoy!

Well behind the reporting curve we may be with our main story above, but stick this one in your grig and smoke it! We just got hold of a list of other characters accidentally leaked by Capcom! The characters are: Doctor Strange, Frank West, Iron Fist, Nemesis, Nova, Phoenix Wright, Rocket Raccoon and Vergil. This takes the total to the full 12 as stated! Lovely stuff! Except… who?!!! Darn, I was hoping for better. Oh well, I guess there’s always the next upgrade 6 months after this one. Can we have some new AE characters now Capcom?

Maim An Infant You Say? Goodness Me, Yes

20110720-073340.jpg

Well, stick my head on a spike, Limbo’s only gone and been released on Playstation Network.

Long the preserve of those plucky Xbox types and their wonderful flying machines (erm… XBLA), Copenhagen-based Playdead’s ingenious puzzler wowed indie-sceptics with its highly stylised, hand-drawn visuals when it was released back in the day. Indeed, its moody, black and white backdrops, silhouetted characters and haunting atmospherics bravely set this little beaut apart from even its big budget peers. Well, backdrops yes – that, and the near continual, gory death inflicted on your small child avatar – impaled, sliced, and repeatedly speared by giant spiders simply to evidence your pathetic lack of gaming ability.

Anyhoo, now PS3 owners can get their very own piece of this infant-maiming classic for a mere $14.99 – which, is, ooh five shillings and a thrupenny bit in old money. And if you act fast, you can actually grab yourselves a 20% discount (available for two weeks, you penny-pinching fiends)

PS, PC Steam-fans, don’t despair – you can grab this sucker on August 2nd.

Wait a minute! PAX is how long away? minecraft adventure not public until after

We here at grigorig aren’t your average tom foolary degenerates, we is very smart. why only today i, the great Lartens, who knows everything there is to know bout chaos theory and predicting weather cycles, put two and two together to calculate the possible release date range of the Minecraft Adventure update 1.8. So here it is, get your abacus out if you’re ready to follow along. PAX is in 40 days and a few hours, that’s August 26th – 28th. And notch said on twitter and google+ that it will “have the first playable version of the Adventure Update there”, but the feedback from that will help tweak it for a public release. Therefore i deduce that the update is a minimum 41 days away, and likely only a little longer. But hopefully not too much longer, just a week longer will do please Mojang.

On a serious note, the combat in 1.8 is suppose to be way more fun. @notch was twittering the other day that he wanted to shoot the moon, i’m guessing that wasn’t a reference to a line in Cheech and Chongs up in smoke, but rather he was playing with the bow and arrow in Minecraft, which he also later tweeted that “I did add an achievement for killing a skeleton with an arrow at 50 meters. Not easy.”

So there you have it folks. 3 days after he said it, hot off the press news. Would you believe game journalism isn’t my day job. Though maybe i should say it is as currently my day job is making a portfolio of work to get a day job. hmmm

In other news, the iphone app i have for pushing rss feeds, has kindly told me at nearly 2 in the morning that my google reader session has expired from their servers and i need to log in, i mean, what if i was sleeping. And i might add that lately its been a day late in pushing feeds. Like cheers. Put a comment if you know of a good trustworthy rss feed pusher app that has keyword pushes too.

How do you like those apples

macbook airHands up if you own at least one apple product, come on, you must have one, even if its that ipod mini with 4GB disk space that you put in that draw you forgot about. So many of us are falling for the allure of Apple products even with their hefty price tag, but when they make these beautiful unibody Macbooks with i7 quad core sandy bridge processors and sometimes discrete graphics cards that can run WOW on ultra settings churning out 1200p of definition, who can refute their glory. Maybe its a bit noisy when the fans crank up, and do NOT touch the screen hinge area what ever you do, that sucka is hot. Ok it won’t damage you but its hot, the heat has got to go somewhere, its the rules of physics, transference on energy and all that.

What was my point, oh yeah, looks like the new MacBook Airs may be released late next week, as i recall thursdays or fridays are generally a launch day for apple, so looks like they’re a week away according to a fair few sources, or rather 1 sources that claims a few sources, of course it could be just chinese whispers at this point, but thats the internet for you eh grigs?

Anyway, as the OSX Lion operating system will be on the MBA and Mac Minis that are also due for their upgrade, then that means it will be in the app store to buy and download before then sometime before then. So make sure your systems are all up to date on the latest Snow Leopard (10.6.8) ready for a swift change over. For us over here in good ol’ Blighty, it comes with a very reasonable price tag of £20.99. Though if you purchased a mac product on or after the 6th june 2011 from apple or autherized reseller then you have 30 days after the official release of Lion to request the upgrade for free. It says go here http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/uptodate/, but it didn’t say anymore than what was said on the link to that page. Hopefully that’s due to change when it’s actually released into the wiled.

Now it just happens that one of the grig’s grig griggers is looking at getting the new MB Airs, Specs having been confirmed, but the lates is that it will have 128GB SSD as standard, 4GB RAM, and possibly i5 and i7 processors. ranging from 1.6 – 1.8Ghz, the 1.6 i5 can turbo boost to 2.3, whereas the 1.7 i7 can boost to 2.7 which is very respectable for an MacBook Air, the 1.8 boosts to 2.9. All 3 mentioned are 2 cores and 4 threads. Remember the previous 2010 MBA had regular core 2 duos, 2 cores 2 threads.

The architecture of the i series of intel chips is far better for efficiency and processing speeds than the core 2 duos. don’t let the number fool yas, though its hard to draw a direct comparison between the two, so i can’t say if a 1.8 i7 is better than a 2.4 core 2 duo for definite. But as that version can boost to 2.9 when needed then its a safe bet to say it is. That said my understanding of the boost technology is that it shuts down other cores to focus on the others, in the case of a duo that would be the other one, its not a big issu on the quads, but then when is a MacBook Air going to do some serious crunching?

No word on if there are any discrete graphics options for the Air, the 2010 had the Nvidia 320m, which apparently performs a little better than the sandy bridge intel HD3000 graphics that are part of the CPU chip. Normally onboard graphics suck, but the HD3000 was pretty good, just not discrete good. Well actually its better than low end discretes acording to this AnandTech article.

Anyway, other things apple, i keep seeing updates of people using IOS 5 beta, currently on v3 i believe, looking forward to that in the fall, always nice to get some new features, and this while cloud storage thing is interesting, $25 dollars a year to get your library of music downloadable in a high bitrate, legitimately, even those that you didn’t even get from apple in the first place. Sounds, good, i’ve got loads at 128kbps because 10 years ago that took up precious space dawg.

Konami issues questionnaire as Grigorig changes the world again!

Welcome my fellow Grigs and Grigesseseseses… (esses?) as we once again delve into the withering world of video games! Now, it is without question that there are many things that have undoubtedly changed due to the irrepressible wisdom and influence of Grigorig since having arrived on the scene. From our world shaking, Government rocking, revolution spawning Griggish-wisdomry, we have spat in the face of Capcoms laziness, forced Sonic to pee into a force 9 gale until he learned his lesson, and of course toppled super powers like EA with our scathing wit by continuously saying that they’re poo poo. Let no man dissuade you from acknowledging that Grig has changed the gaming landscape for the better!

But before anyone calls foul of our claims, dismissing them as being the first conspiracy theory in history that could ruffle even the brow of Jesse Ventura with doubt, I ask you this: is it coincidence that mere days after a Snatcher revival related article hits the Grig that a new Konami questionnaire appears on Facebook asking which past franchise we would next like to see brought to XBLA and PSN? Pah to ye naysayer! I smell a tip-off! This humdinger has more Grig shaped fingerprints all over it than a Tifa Lockheart action figure!

Apparently Konami have recently realised you can do more on Facebook than just rifle through your mates sisters Ibiza ’08 holiday snaps, and to this end, the Japanese giant are now putting on a facade of democracy by collecting up votes on their fan page as we speak – no doubt to cushion the blow right before they ram Metal Gear 16 down our throats. Still, great news you might think, but before you all flock there in your droves, just hold your horses a moment my Griggers…

This is a call to arms! Already the obsequious buffoons of the modern gaming era are filling up comments threads with their ill-proposed votes for games that are not Snatcher! We must stop the imbeciles who even as I write are voting for the PS1 early PES games over and above the Kojima masterpiece! The early PES games, you say? Yes! The early PES games! Shunning the fact their PS3’s can play the original Playstation games that you can get at any charity shop in the world for 20p, or play the series best in PES 5 on 360 via backwards compatability, these people need to be stopped! Vive la revolution!

snatcher gillian mika

Sigh. But alas, I think I must face it. In a generation that has seen Sonic spiral further down the chequered Green Hill themed pan, and where EA are now seemingly full on shepherds leading the gaming youth well and truly to the Dark Side, and in a time when even Nights has not been able to duck the cack-cannon having sullied his purple jester hat with a gratuitous face-full in Journey Of Dreams, we will obviously not be victorious in our Snatcher endeavour. It was all too apparent upon a 10 year old COD obsessive seeing my Mega CD and venturing the question ‘What is that?’, that I realised all was lost.

But let us not underestimate the aforementioned power and authority of the Grig! Vote Snatcher! The campaign starts here (and consists of this article)! Let us all do our part my friends! Then, and only then, we will surely…

Street Fighter Update… again.

Keeping up to date with all things Street Fighter and with Evo 2011 just around the corner, we begin a succession of articles in the run up to said event by looking at Street Fighters past, present and future as we well and truly get our SF-hype on in anticipation!

We begin by turning our attention to what Ono himself has dubbed ‘Super Street Fighter IV 2012’ and his twitter witterings of the last few weeks in order to glean some kind of idea about what might be coming up in the future.

But first, some perspective. In case you had missed it, both the DLC and disc versions of SSFIV Arcade Edition have landed and depending on your perspective, opinions seem to be mixed. Whether you expected more backgrounds, characters and general content, or are unhappy about the perceived over-powered nature of the twins, or perhaps are raising an eyebrow to the nerfing and buffing of the current cast, it seems that there’s plenty to be said of this update! But, even though a life long partners crowing can begin to grind the nerves after 20 or so years, we must stand by our game for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, till RROD do us part! Whether the recent updates lop-sided balance has sickened you to your core and have you hoofing the disc out the door, or you are renewing your vows after loving the improvements to your main character, Street Fighter head-honcho Ono has been listening to what people have had to say. Let’s take a butchers at some of the info of most significance…

SSFIV AE 2012 rebalance hopes – FIFA, COD, Pro Evo. What do they all have in common? Yes, they are all getting worse, but thats not what I’m getting at. The answer is, they are all updated yearly. Well not to be one to be left out, Ono has seemingly been toying with the notion of yearly updates himself! According to recent tweets, and as a response to complaints about AE’s imbalance, Ono sounds to be considering seriously the prospect of a patch-shaped Street Fighter tinker at the least, seemingly after SF x Tekken work has finished. While a little tweaking here and there would surely be appreciated it unfortunately looks like we’re in for the long haul on this one again since that game isn’t even going to be out till next year. The chance of people still being interested by then? Not very likely, and Ono has acknowledged this himself. Could it spur him to action sooner? Oh, and there’s still nothing on new characters to fill those two slots on the AE character select screen. Come on Capcom!

Next to put it’s head on the Grig Orig chopping block is Street Fighter x Tekken. This is a title seeming to be hitting it’s developmental stride in the past few months with teasers, trailers and location tests all revealing more and more about the content that we’ll be getting next year. Let’s take a look at a few standout, or just recurring points!

Poison: Probably the most mentioned character in Ono’s tweets, so much so that it would be kinda strange if she/he wasn’t in the game. But at the same time, it would be weird if she was considering she’s never actually been playable in a Street Fighter game before, even though she was included in the unreleased Capcom Fighting Jam. One things for sure, all those new-half fans out there are certainly pestering Ono, and while answering them could be just another part of his trolling shenanigans, he’s at least acknowledging the request! The jury is still out on this one. But talking of juries…

Juri mention: While speaking recently SFxTekken and refering to popular characters, Ono dropped Juri’s name into the mix. This is really nothing to go on, but the seemingly random mention has been speculated on as possibly having some significance. Only time will tell.. but I grigging hope so!

Life bar changes: After what feels like many, many requests, Ono has mentioned that the energy bars as we’ve come to know them so far are not ticking the fans boxes and therefore will be getting a redesign. Community wins! Unless they make them worse…

Comic Con: Common knowledge really this one, but Ono has confirmed that they have readied a new trailer for Comic Con. The sly fella has also tweeted out a li’l sneaky pic showing King seemingly tagging out an as yet unknown partner. Hmm?

SFxT King and mystery player

Dhalsim Teaser: C’mon people! It’s ‘Sim for sure! A new character teaser has broken in the last few days and shows what appears to be Dhalsims yellow shorts, flame motif, and background from Sf2. Id love to see that stage in SFIV-flavoured 3D so I’m hoping its in there! Off the topic of that particular is it/isn’t it SRK 200+ comment row, it looks like the trend of all SF characters being lifted from the SF4 series has yet to be broken. When we gonna get someone else we haven’t already seen in 3D?

Dhalsim SFxT teaser

That piece of red carpet is from Dhalsims classic SF2 stage… or is it?

Alt costumes: A given really, and you can bet we won’t be getting them for free, but when quizzed about whether we will be getting them, Ono replied ‘Hehehe You can count on it.’

Lastly, we have Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition. As has been bandied about muchly, this new filter-enhanced edition has GGPO netcode at it’s heart that should ensure some of the finest online fighting that the genre has yet seen! But there’s more my Grigs! For as has been revealed more recently…

Trial modes: The good fellows at Capcom are never ones to shy away from helping their loyal customers get their Street Fightin’ game on -unless it’s the new characters in AE coz they couldn’t be bothered – and have included some trial mode goodness to the SF3 mix! From combo lessons and blocking tasks, to a trial replicating the infamous Chun Li Super Special parry as pulled off by Daigo on Justin Wong, there’s plenty of help on hand bringing the SF3 experience to players new and old!

YouTube: Ever been worried about a bad performance being plastered all over the net by someone? Well Capcom are streamlining the public humiliation process by having a direct upload of replays from within the game itself! Truly the wheat and chaff could be harder to separate as a glut of rubbish is surely likely to flood YouTube. Nice idea though!

Achievements: In the same vein as SSFIV AE before it, a list of achievmo’s have hit the net prompting ideas of what we can expect. The only real surprises look like they will be from the trials and YouTube upload features rather than new characters or gameplay enhancements.

SF3 OE Achievement List
Release date: Still nothing on this front of solidarity, only that it will be before the end of the summer. Could a date possibly be unveiled at Comic Con? The chances are good!

Well, that’s a brief overview of some of the goings on in the future world of Street Fighter, but stay tuned old school fans coz we got a SF2 retrospective of mammoth proportions coming up for your delectation soon!

New Snatcher? No such hope…

It’s being reported today that after an eternity in the wild, new Snatcher-related content is coming home to roost!

Finally, after all these years we surely get to find out what happened to Gillian Seed after he left Neo Kobe to continue his rip roaring cyber-punk escapades in snowy Moscow! Hooray! Many questions will without doubt be answered, like what really happened in Gillians past? Will he and Jamie ever get over their amnesia? And how long into the game will it be before we get another Katrina-esque woman-in-very-thin-towel scene? All things that will surely be revealed when Kojima spills the Snatcher shaped beans in this new adventure!

Except they won’t.

Brace yourself my Grigs. This new Snatcher related initiative is only coming out in Japan. D’oh! But even more bizarrely, it’s a radio show. Double d’oh! And if you needed the wind taking out your sails even more, it’s the very same ‘Project S’ that was announced all the way back in 2007. Tripple, quadruple, quint… er, esson, d’oh with a cherry on top!

For anyone who doesn’t remember back to the aforementioned reveal, Metal Gear man and cut-scene mentalist Hideo Kojima had teased for several weeks about ‘Project S’ – a mysterious project underway headed up by No More Heroes Suda 51. Project S? Why surely that must be Snatcher, we all concluded. The Snatcher fans were well and truly out in force – and then promptly retreated into the shadowy recesses of the Internet once again when the actual truth of the project was revealed.

While the fans speculated on this expected and long overdue sequel, even going so far as to argue over potential platforms as is the fanboy way, there was a nasty sting in the tail for the triumphant return of the series that so many had longed for. With Snatcher having an ending that was a full on unanswered cliff hanger, it wasn’t OTT to hope that it was about time Kojima had temporarily ceased the downward spiralling Metal Gear franchise and gotten back to his original big project! Sadly, it was not to be.

As mentioned earlier, Project S turned out to be a Japan-only radio show written by Suda 51 and that is now ready to air, the content of which will surely never be enjoyed by the western world. Unless Lartens has learned enough Japanese from playing My Japanese Coach on his DS that he can jot down a full Grig exclusive transcript. He’s owned it for a couple of months so I reckon we’re in with a good shout.

But alas, I fear we may never get a true gaming conclusion. The concerning thing is that even a radio show has taken a Duke Nukem inspired age to even come to fruition, so what are the chances of an actual video game? Slim to none, my Grigs. Slim to none. The light of hope dwindles even further.

However, on a more positive note, it’s at least some kind of reassurance to know that the franchise is still on the Kojima radar. And while it’s true to say that the man is too far down the self-indulgent hour-long cut scene path to even dream that Snatcher 2 would be good, I can’t help but pin just a few hopes on the game. You read my hopes for SSFIV Arcade Edition right? Not so much as an official announcement telling me that my expectations of the game are off the mark can crush my hopes, no siree!
