Shen Mue 3 News!

Shen mue 3 news ahoy over on UK Resistance! Actually, to be honest, it’s barely anything at all other than the faintest glow at the end of a very long dark tunnel, but it’s better than nothing.

If you read the comments, you’ll see that the readers are far from frothing at the mouth over the likelihood of it happening, but then they’re a wacky bunch over on that thar site!

The Legend of GRiG ORiG! A Link To Benny’s Past

Zelda

Ahoy there retro fans – the bedgell Zelda challenge is officially… ON! Because we’ve finally (almost) got our happy little hands on a copy of the SNES beauty.

Already our little Zelda adventure has seen our brave warrior (me) trek across the dark world (Brighton), face fierce enemies (the guy in Games Crib who had no Zeldas), and try to fill our little jars at many stores (eBay, who had many Zeldas).

What have we found so far? Retro gaming is definitely big business – there’s a shed load of SNES Zelda carts shipping constantly, most for around 20-quid unboxed. With the manual and box there’s plenty on there for upwards of £60 dibbers. (That’s $4,536 to our American friends…) A-mazing.

So, we all know what’s next – time for bedgell to complete SNES Zelda after many shameful years of failing to do so… And just for laughs – here she is! Not long now my love!

Steve Jobs didn’t want to miss out on the ipad 2 event.

So today is the day the ipad 2 gets it’s little event over in san francisco. Jobs is there to gloat over how little the copy cat tablets are catching up to the first ipad. And now the ipad 2 with it’s A5 1GHZ dual core processor is twice as fast on cpu performance and upto 9 times faster graphics, how’s do you like them apples! All this plus the same battery performance as the previous A4 chip.

Here in the Uk we can see a 25th march release apparently, won’t that be nice, yeah like we can afford one.
Ipad 2 in diferent colours

This ipad will ship with IOS4.3 which has improvements for safari and itunes home sharing features. The screen is a nice 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with 1024×768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi), an Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. very nice. The back camera can do a sweet 30fps 720 recording, which is kinda standard minimum these days, but defo good to have 🙂

As will be shown in a future post by Dibbs Ahoy, imovie on the iphone can create some really good results, so how good can an ipad 2 version be. well at $4.99 fo 11 march our US friends can find out, but we’re expecting it to be gooood. I mean the ipad is a product for consumers, and imovie is no final cut or after effects. But imovie can do great things in the right hands, of course if the star is yours truely how could it not be good, i joke.

oh did we mention the ipad 2 is 33% thinner and a little bit lighter, not just in colour (also in white) but in weight by 0.2 pounds. Theres also hdmi for video out and some smart cover that can be adapted to prop it up, wake it up, put it to sleep and more.

Black Ops Demo Out Today For Xbox, PS3

Bah humbug. As a die-hard MW2 fan, the following news is hard to share. But out of love for you all, here goes.

Activision have done the gentlemanly thing and released a lovely new Call of Duty: Black Ops demo for your gaming delectation. And what’s more, it features the entire “WMD” single-player mission – with all its SR-71-flying, enemy-base-attacking, snowy-landscape-rendering wonderfulness. In all fairness, this is a corker so go get your grubby little mitts on it. Just don’t come crying to me when it tragically fails to live up to the standards set by Modern Warfare.

Should you still want to disappoint yourselves, the WMD-demo is out now on Xbox Live and Playstation Network.

Hah! There’s nothing more to read – but don’t pretend you didn’t enjoy that story. So why not tell the world?!

Bunch of Brighton Muppets

So everyone loves muppets. And everyone loves Brighton. So what’s not to love about Muppets in Brighton, rocking out to the sounds of LCD Soundsystem’s Dance Yrself Clean? Nothing, people, absolutely nothing.

If you’re not a fan of the tune, at least hold out til the drums kick in mid-way through – you’ll have drunken puppets, and some pig-frog loving, to keep you entertained while you do. It’s all good…

Here Come The Girls – Sony Scholarship Opens Doors

Fancy $10,000 just for being a girl? Well, spank my thigh if Sony Online Entertainment isn’t about to start splashing the cash to make those very dreams come true. Because it seems SOE has decided there’s not enough female games developers, and is putting its hand in its copious pockets to bankroll some future talent.

The project, known as the Gamers In Real Life (G.I.R.L) Scholarship, is now entering its fourth year, and on offer this time is up to ten big ones towards tuition, as well as a 10-week paid internship with one of SOE’s studios.

Not bad eh?

But why the generosity? Over to Laura Naviaux, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at SOE. “The most recent industry studies show that although a large percentage of the game playing population is female, they make up only about one in every 10 game developers,” she explains.
“For the fourth year in a row, SOE is committed to encouraging women to pursue an exciting and rewarding career of developing fun and innovative games for everyone.”

The scheme is run jointly between SOE and Scholarship America, a leading non-profit educational support program, and is now open for applications at the Scholarship America website.

To be eligible to participate, entrants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program related to video games, including video game art, design, animation, production, programming or visual effects, must not graduate before the end of the 2012 spring term and must comply with the program’s official rules. Online applications must be completed and submitted on or before April 6, 2011. SOE will announce the winner on or about May 16, 2011.

Get in the ring. Aminal Team have entered Dream Build Play 2011

After 2 years of riding high on success (sarcasm), Aminal Team enter the Dream Build Play competition once more. 2009 saw a less than finished attempt of a 2d christmas platformer, which was later released on xbox live indie games sometime in january 2010, late due to bugs and multiple peer review attempts.

Now with a whoping 37 units sold, Aminal Team embark on another game creating journey, which nicely ties up doubles with my final year project. ofcourse i only have less than 2 months to finish/start the game for the project, but dream build play gives plenty of time to polish this beast to perfection. And perfection it needs to be, last years finalists look aesthetically pro. With a ton of nifty programming backing them up. The competition get’s stronger each year. But 2011 will see this dog have it’s day. NOT

Submissions end June 14th and Aminal Team will likely use every last day. Largely in part to that being abiut 6 days after Graduation lol.

The cash prizes make the effort totally worth it. Not to mention microsoft are giving away the 12 month trial membership of the app hub free upon sign up to the competition. This means that developers can test games out on their consoles. I t doesn’t however let them peer review or submit games. Only a full membership has that. But the trial comes in handy for testing 2 player testing.

Prizes
• Grand prize: $40,000
• 1st prize: $20,000
• 2nd prize: $10,000
• 3rd prize: $5,000

As always the winner of the competition has the chance to secure Xbox LIVE publishing contracts. Just like James Silva did with The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai in 2007, which led to a book published by apress with teriible errata and some arogant comments on the errata page, could of been a great resource but wasn’t. Oh and the game was incredibly boring, but it looked good, dark and gory.

Lumi (last years winner) on the other hand looks to be beautifully cute. check it

Microsoft research is doing some interesting things

Well boys, this video was out days ago but things are slow at cassa de lartens. But this video has some very interesting works in rogrss for using cameras like the kinect for tracking and some other fandangled technology for some 3D goodness, one of which changes what an object is depending on which person the kinect is tracking. Check it.
