Minecraft 1.9 pre 5 is up for download for the impatient

What up minecraftalonians, if you’re one of those who likes to take a sneak peak at whats new, then you maye be intereseted in tehis here link http://assets.minecraft.net/1_9-pre5/minecraft.jar which will be the latest build for hardcore fans to test out, as usual this is an official link from @jeb_ one of the developers of minectraft, he also tweets out the web page with the list of bugs to check against if you would like to be super helpful, see here http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Known_bugs/Version_1.9pre4, and then there is a discussion about new bugs etc on http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Known_bugs/Version_1.9pre5.

If you’re new to this type of update, then you will need to do a couple of things, first backup your old, 2nd plonk in the the new file in exchange for the old, for windows the default Minecraft save is in C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft though you will have to enable show hidden files in the folder options, in a windows file browser (knows as explorer, not to be confused with ie the web browser) there should be menus, if not (like on vista of win 7) press the alt key should bring this up, then go to tools, folder options, view, show hidden files or something to that effect, you should now see the app data file. now in the .minecraft folder is a bin folder, and in there is a minecraft.jar file, so backup (copy the .minecraft folder and put paste it somewhere safe) and replace minecraft.jar with the one you just downloaded, and thats it.

OSX users will find it in Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/minecraft, lion users will need to show the library using the terminal app and typing “chflags nohidden ~/Library/” without the quotes, same process copy the minecraft folder and paste somewhere safe, replace minecraft.jar in the bin folder with the one you downloaded.

That should be it, in other news, it’s been announced that Minecraft for XBOX 360 should be released in the spring time, but the first playable version will be previewed at the MineCon event in Vegas in a few weeks, MineCon is the official launch event for Minecraft.
