We’re in the pipe. Five by five…

Yes, my fellow Grigadeers, our dreams shall be fulfilled! Because eight months after I last picked up my mocked up USB-Saturn pad to play SNES Zelda on my Mac (what is this weird, chimeric world we live in?!) – I’m back in Hyrule and whupping pixellated buttcheeks left, right and, yes, by all means, centre! (Wait, does that mean ringpiece?)

Well, battered 16-bit bungholes or no, the cheers are echoing around Grig Towers as, instantly as I journeyed back into the dark world, another dungeon has fallen. This time it was the turn of the Ice Palace where a weird set of floating eyeballs lay hidden in a giant icy jelly – quite why exactly, no one is sure. But just in case, I slashed them to bits. Nindeed.

So that’s five down and two to go. Shaking in his manky wizard boots is old Ganon, oh yes.

In one small moment of sadness, I’m fairly certain I’ve already done that dungeon and was actually making my way through the sixth one last time I played it. Suggesting I’ve picked up a dodgy old save game and today’s efforts were naught but repetition. But hey-ho – we’re back in the action. Watch out dark world minions – I’ve got a Master Sword and I’m not afraid to use it…

And here, on a completely unrelated note to the story, is the reason for its title. In case you were interested…

Bosh! Speedy boot straight to the corn hole!

Sounds like you’re not far off the life-changer! Beating Zelda that is. I need to get my act together and do that myself, but I’m getting to the point where I actually feel so swamped by games that I end up just doing nothing instead. My current list of half finished games: GTAV, Earthbound, Shantae and the Pirates Curse, Persona 4, Chrono Cross, Skies of Arcadia, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy X HD, Mario 3D World… and many others. Shocking. And that’s not even counting the numerous games I have that have never even made it into the machines.

I need to come up with some kind of schedule here!

Oh, by the by, what do you find to be a good emulator for Mac? Obviously I need more games at my disposal to fail at beating!

Wait – is that final fantasy 7 re-run not completed or just never? That’s the big one to do if it’s never! That’s zelda level importance!

For Mac emulator I use snes9x. I have a megadrive one too but I’ve never really used it. Snes9x has its quirks – setting up the controls is a freakin nightmare if I remember rightly – but once it’s running gameplay is near perfect on everything I’ve used…

Oops, I meant VIII, not VII. Although I didn’t get round to beating VII until like, 2010 or something. But done it a few times now to make up for it!

  4. bedgell says:

Phew… I don’t think I completed viii either – I think it just got me down that I wasn’t really gathering strength in magic because my spells constantly had to be replaced. I felt cheated… Which is a shame cla I think the story and characters were good…

Yeah, I played through the first disc back when it was released and enjoyed it, but then I just stopped. I did replay some of it and did the same always with the intention of picking up where I left off, but then I got an NTSC copy to avoid having to put up with borders and wanted to start again. I still intend to beat it. Although I didn’t enjoy it quite as much in more recent times. It does kinda have a bad rep. I see a lot of people say its crap, the worst FF, etc, etc. Maybe coming after VI and VII was just a very tall order that it didn’t quite manage. Still, I reckon there be fun to be had, and I’m gonna try and find it! When I get time to that is.
